Il problema del cambiamento climatico va ben oltre l'impatto climatico delle emissioni di gas serra, e anche se l'impatto dell'agricoltura e dell'industria alimentare e' sensibile anche da quel punto di vista, c'e' un altro aspetto fondamentale, di cui si molto meno si parla e nell'ambito del quale il ruolo dell'agricoltura e dell'industria alimentare e' fondamentale, ma non necessariamente negativo.

Si tratta dell'impatto dell'agricoltura sull'ambiente fisico, le traformazioni che la necessita' di assicurare risorse per tutti gli esseri umani impone. Dobbiamo renderci conto che il nostro stesso numero impone, anche se non fosse 'inquinante' nel senso piu' tradizionale del termine, una profonda trasformazione del pianeta, del suo stesso aspetto. E cambiare l'aspetto del pianeta significa modificare profondamente l'ecosistema - anche se, e ci tengo a sottolinearlo, non necessariamente negativo. O forse si': a essere ottimisti, la scelta potrebbe essere tra un pianeta giardino tutto curato (e controllato) e il pianeta giardino selvaggio (e splendido) che abbiamo ora.
