An interview with Pierre Moscovici ending his term as European Commissioner (Omni News Italian)

Sometimes you get lucky. I scheduled our interview with former European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici to take a look to the work of the Junker Commission, that was leaving office. Then the Italian government resigned, and Commissioner Moscovici was pointed out by a good number of Italian media and politicians as a powerful force in the formation of a new government.

In this almost 15 minutes exclusive interview, one of the most powerful members of the European Commission, the 'government' of a mammoth of 28 (now 27) States, over 420 millions citizens and (when taken together), the only economic powerhouse able to challenge China and/or the United States, gave Omni News Italian his candid views about European future, and quite straight forward thoughts about populism and its Italian best known face, Matteo Salvini, leader of the far-right Lega.

La fortuna aiuta i reporter (a volte): quando avevamo chiesto una intervista esclusiva con l'allora Commissario europeo Pierre Moscovici, era per soprattutto per parlare del lavoro della Commissione Junker, il cui mandato stava per scadere, e per dare un'occhiata a possibili scenari futuri con uno degli uomini piu' influenti in Europa. Poi cadde il primo governo Conte.

Ed ecco che questa intervista di circa 15 minuti si trasforma nell'occasione per parlare si' di Unione Europea, ma soprattutto per fissare lo sguardo sulle vicende italiane: e Moscovici, con franchezza forse favorita anche dall'essere lontano dai media europei, risponde alle domande sulla situazione italiana non perdendo l'occasione per esprimere in modo molto diretto il suo pensiero sui populismi e sul loro volto italiano, Matteo Salvini e la Lega.
